Painting of Jean Savage Abbott by Earl Merchant

Jean Savage Abbott

She was a complicated woman. As a child, she was shy, and as an adult, introspective and private. After surviving breast cancer, she dedicated the rest of her life to painting and living as an artist.

In 1973, she moved to Rockport, MA and joined the Rockport Art Association. She organized the Life Drawing classes, which brought her into regular contact with the artists and models of Cape Ann. RAA sold 55 pieces of her work.

In 1986 she donated several pieces to the RAA Museum Collection, and left another body of work to her family at her death in 1987. The family is now offering some of her work for sale in the RAA Spring Auction, starting May 3, 2025. This website is dedicated to her life and work as an artist.
